Okinawa Harbor View Hotel
Origin of "Hotel Name
Origin of the Hotel Name
THE OKINAWA HARBOR VIEW HOTEL WAS BUILT AS A FULL-SCALE "CITY HOTEL" IN NAHA CITY TO COMMEMORATE THE RETURN OF OKINAWA TO THE MAINLAND IN 1972 AND TO COINCIDE WITH THE OKINAWA INTERNATIONAL OCEAN EXPO HELD IN 1975. THE NAME "HARBOR VIEW" WAS DERIVED FROM THE FACT THAT THE SITE WAS THE FORMER SITE OF THE HARBOR VIEW CLUB, A MEMBERS-ONLY SOCIAL CLUB FOR AMERICANS LIVING IN OKINAWA, INCLUDING EMPLOYEES OF THE U.S. NATIONAL GOVERNMENT OF THE RYUKYU ISLANDS, ETC. AT THE TIME OF CONSTRUCTION, THERE WAS A RIVER NEARBY, AND THE NAME "HARBOR VIEW" WAS DERIVED FROM THE PANORAMIC VIEW OF IT. THE NAME "HARBOR VIEW" STILL REMAINS TODAY.
Inheriting Tradition and Contemporary
Traditional and Contemporary
At that time, the club was a facility that combined a salon-like atmosphere where not only U.S. military personnel but also political and business dignitaries from Japan, the U.S., and the Ryukyu Islands could dine together.
The Okinawa Harbor View Hotel was expected to inherit that atmosphere and functionality and become a city hotel representing Okinawa after the reversion to mainland Japan.
Over time, the hotel has become well known as Okinawa's guest house hotel, offering traditional hospitality and international-class service. We always value the "precious journey" of each and every one of our guests.
Architectural expression of "climate
Architectural Expression of the Environmental Features
To express the Okinawan climate, the exterior walls are sprayed with an ochre-red material with low surface reflection, which is reminiscent of Okinawan "soil".
The building is an architectural expression aimed at returning to the unique Okinawan culture by attaching a "shisa", an Okinawan charmer that was rare at that time.

ON MAY 13, 2002, THE HOTEL RECEIVED THE "11TH BELCA AWARD, LONG LIFE DIVISION" FROM THE BUILDING AND EQUIPMENT LIFE AND MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATION (BELCA), THE FIRST HOTEL IN OKINAWA PREFECTURE AND THE SECOND HOTEL IN JAPAN TO RECEIVE THIS AWARD. THE HOTEL IS THE FIRST HOTEL IN OKINAWA PREFECTURE AND THE SECOND HOTEL IN JAPAN TO RECEIVE THIS AWARD.

Art in the Hotel
There are several artworks by well-known artists on display in the hotel, including one that has been used for press conferences by political figures
"A wall with a seersucker carved all over it" is one of the ways to enjoy the hotel. The hotel's artwork is one of the hotel's many attractions.
Other attractions of the Okinawa Harbor View Hotel include the nature itself in the garden terrace, which is reminiscent of a courtyard overseas, and the sculptures placed throughout the hotel, which
allow guests to feel the climate and traditions of Okinawa.
